Ludwig-Deubner-Grant
Associated with the Institute is the Ludwig Deubner Foundation, which takes its name from that scholar of Greek and our first post-war dean, Ludwig Deubner, who died in 1946. It serves to support "talented students in need" by awarding one-year scholarships. These scholarships were awarded for the first time in 2009 after the consequences of Germany’s division and the problems of the post-reunification period had been overcome; Ludwig Deubner’s descendants also attended the ceremony held on the occasion of the scholarship’s inaugural conferment, with the keynote speech given by Walter Burkert (†), a classical philologist from Zurich. Unfortunately, low interest rates have made it impossible to award the scholarship in recent years, as scholarships may only be financed from interest income and not from the foundation’s assets.
