Personal Information

I was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1982. I studied Philosophy and Classics at McGill University (B.A.) in Montréal, and Philosophy at the University of Western Ontario (M.A., Ph.D.) in London, Ontario, Canada. From 2009-2011, I was a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Doctoral Fellow, and from 2011-2013, I taught the history of philosophy at Western Ontario and Huron University College, both in London. I received my doctorate in November 2013 with the dissertation, "Method and Metaphor in Aristotle's Science of Nature." Since January 2014, I have been a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Topoi Area D-2-3.

Research Interests

My research focuses on ancient philosophy and science, in particular on notions of causation in Antiquity and how theories of causation relate to different methods and models of scientific inquiry. I am most interested in the work of the Peripatetics, Aristotle and Theophrastus; Hellenistic science and medicine; the work of John Philoponus and Michael of Ephesus; Jean Buridan; Renaissance Platonism; and Early Modern witchcraft.
I am, along with Michael Griffin (UBC) and Riin Sirkel (UVM), co-organizer of the Canadian Colloquium for Ancient Philosophy / le colloque canadien de philosophie ancienne.
