MA Classical Philology

The degree programme aims to impart research-based, in-depth and specialised knowledge in the field of Greco-Roman antiquity, to expand and consolidate students’ knowledge of the discipline as well as its methods and techniques, to develop and secure key competences such as text and media proficiency in both receptive-analytical and active capacities, mastery of the various forms of academic work, information acquisition and the nuanced presentation of independent research, the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. The course content introduces students to current research discussions. In addition, the aim is to involve them in research projects at an early stage and to encourage them to develop their own research ideas.

Important: The previous M.A. programmes in Greek Studies, Latin Studies and Classical Philology have now been merged into a single degree programme (M.A. Classical Philology), which can also be studied with a Latin or Greek focus (or with equal weighting).
